songwriter, worked regularly on my local originals scene for a few years, before closing the door to it all... then the songs started pouring out of me again mid '08....
so here's the reality of what I do... I don't claim to be a singer. I had 3 lessons some 15 yrs ago, &walked out on them coz she wanted to train me for opera, as apparently she could hear something like that in my voice. I don't claim to be a guitarist, let alone a musician. I never took lessons in either, and don't practice, only picking up the guitar to let a song come out. I do write, prose, poetry&songs. I've never done any songwriting courses or workshops or attended any symposiums. When I was 21, a friend in the music biz encouraged me to put my poems to music.... I finally took his advice some 6 yrs later. I moved back interstate and stumbled into a local solo/acoustic/originals competition. No-one was more stunned than me, that people liked what I was doing. I didn't win, but I did get to the finals, &the bookings began. I had a mousey little voice, could barely pick a chord, suffered panic attacks, but what I did have was a love of the words that kept pouring out of me, so I kept going. Several booking agents took a liking to me, one manager, one great guitarist who also became my backing vocalist, a sound engineer or two, &1 promoter. A project ensued. Sponsors were sought&signed. Lyrics were approved by the board of the charity who was to benefit from the sales of a 4track cd. Pre-production work was done. Venues were lined up. Media on board. Then the wait for the rest of the sponsorship money to launch the music network, with me as spokesperson. And I waited and waited. Then I waited some more. Then I'd had enough waiting, &got a day job&drafted a novel. I didn't return to music. It was the project, or bust, for me. I think when you write something you love&feel passionate about it coz it's a real piece of you, you get to the stage where you need it to be heard, really heard... not as background music to someone's conversation etc. That was where I was at. And never the twain or my ideals and musical integrity,&the opportunity to be really heard, met. I closed the door on it all&settled into normal life. I hadn't penned a song for some 8-10 yrs.... then I wrote one mid last year.... then another.... then another.... then another. Then I got a recording program for my computer, &am STILL lol trying to learn how to use it, &get the best out of my setup of a pc mic&totally unplugged guitar. So if these songs are in their raw state at present. I still don't practice, &only sing to write a song and record it rather rawly. It seems once again, every now &then I am surprised to find that someone finds an appreciation for what I'm making. So I'm going with it. The whys and wherefores of me writing again, is beyond me, but I'm going with it. I feel so amazed at some of the phrases that seems to string themselves together. It's just so wonderful to feel creatively passionate. The goal is to have a polished studio quality product in hand sooner rather than later, &from there, who knows? I have an idea of the direction I'd like to take my songs in. But the best lain plans hey.... lol It can only go one way.... the way it's meant to go.
My favorite bands and music:
varied from Elvis to Crowded House to Joe Cocker to Billy Holiday to Frank Sinatra Michael Jackson to Kelly Clarkson to Fleetwood Mac to Carl Riseley to Chris Isaac to Meatloaf to Dean Martin (&I love listening to my Jerry Lewis recordings too) to Kings Of Leon to Gershwin, to Crowded House, and on and on....

What Be Your Nerd Type?
Your Result: Musician

Doo doo de doo waaaa doo de doo! (<-- That's you playing something.) Everyone appreciates the band/orchestra geeks and the pretty voices. Whether you sing in the choir, participate in a school/local band, or sit at home writing music, you contribute a joy to society that everyone can agree on. Yay! Welcome to actually doing something for poor, pathetic human souls. (Just kidding.)
